A video about an adorable “momma’s boy” dog and his strong bond with his human mom has gone viral on TikTok. The clip was posted by @dycederottweiler and has amassed over 512,000 views since it was posted on Friday. The footage shows a dog held on a leash by a man standing outside the door of a home. The dog is sitting on a pavement, looking out onto the street. As the camera gets closer to the door, the dog is later shown looking back with sad-looking eyes. A caption shared with the post reads: “I will wait until she walks with us.” The pup’s apparent attachment to his human mom is unsurprising because “dogs can form relationships of comparable qualities with both humans and other dogs,” according to the findings of a March 2019 study published in Scientific Reports, and “these relationships vary along multiple components across different partners.” More From Newsweek Vault: Compare Top Pet Insurance Plans For Dogs The unique relationship between adult dogs and their owners “bears a remarkable resemblance to an infant attachment bond,” noted a May 2013 study published in PLOS One. “Dogs are dependent on human care and their behavior seems specifically geared to engage their owners’ care-giving system,” according to the study. ‘The Sad Puppy-Eyed Look Back at Mama’ A voice is heard in the viral video saying, “Come with me,” as the dog doesn’t budge and looks away from the camera. Users on TikTok were heart-warmed by the dog’s love for his owner. “That’s a mama’s baby if ever I saw one!” @freebyrd1106 and the original poster replied, “He really is.” Ms. Miller wrote: “The sad puppy-eyed look back at Mama. He said: Are you coming, Mama? I don’t wanna go without you! Instant happiness when Mama went.” Zed wrote, “the immediate smile and excitement when momma joins the walk… omgoodness what an adorable momma’s boy…” “The fact that he keeps checking to make sure you’re still walking with him,” said @annasterlin. Trappers with Missing Dogs Massachusetts (MDM) have been at this for 19 months. She will soon be looking for a forever home. Long and difficult journey The pup is now named Gracie but was known as Roxy during her time on her own. Her journey has been long and difficult. She was first found in the woods in Tennessee before being brought to a breeder in Massachusetts. MDM says Worcester Animal Rescue came in to remove dogs from that breeder due to issues. Thankfully, Gracie was adopted before that happened. She was only with her new family for a few days before she went missing on February 10, 2023. “The dog went missing, but was roaming right across the street from where they lived,” said Bernice Gero, a volunteer with Missing Dogs Massachusetts. Gracie is in a foster home after wandering around Worcester for 555 days.Gero has been trying to trap Gracie since the moment she spotted the dog run by.  “I thought OK if we can get her settled, this shouldn’t, hopefully, be too bad, but that was a silly thing to think,” said Gero. “She never really left this area with the exception of July 23, when she went out to the Worcester Airport.” For the first few months, the dog still had her leash attached, but Gero believes she likely chewed it off. They tried to trap her for months, to no avail. At times, she would get partially in the trap, then escape. It led Gero to think she may have been trapped before. MDM has trail cameras with hundreds of videos of their attempts to trap her. They fed her 16 of the 19 months she was on the run. “We cooked chicken, hamburger, steak, she ate well. We had kibble, but we had to up the ante to keep her interested,” explained Gero. “Around January of this year, she showed up with a limp. She literally stood in front of our camera, and we could see her hip distorted.” Gracie may have been hit by car Bernice believes she may have been hit by a car. In May, a neighbor noticed Gracie limp by several times. She told Bernice to set up in her backyard. “We thought this would be the perfect spot for a kennel trap,” said Gero. It took three months for it to work, but she was finally caught. Now she is with Shelly Duprey, a foster parent with PAWS New England. Gracie is very scared and has spent most of her time in a crate or hiding under a bed. The dog is very sweet but scared. She has never barked or shown any aggression toward Duprey. Gracie will be the 38th dog Shelly has fostered. Each has their picture up on a wall in the room Gracie is staying in. One day, Gracie will join the wall. “Oh no, I will let her go. I am a small part in her journey, ” said Duprey. “I can just tell when she is ready, she will open up and be an amazing dog.” Duprey has been taking it slowly with Gracie and allowing the dog to open up at her own pace. When she starts to calm down, Gracie will need medical attention for her leg and shoulder. Duprey says MDM will be paying the bill for it, but MDM is accepting any donations. Celebrity Dog Controversies: From Rachel Leviss Rehoming Graham to Pete Davidson’s PETA Voicemail Many stars have come under fire for their pet ownership, including Rachel “Raquel” Leviss and Pete Davidson. The Vanderpump Rules star and then-fiancé James Kennedy adopted their pooch, Graham Cracker, amid their early courtship. After they split in December 2021, Leviss retained custody of the dog, but many costars called out his poor behavior. “Rachel would bring Graham over [to my house], who is honestly a terror,” Ariana Madix claimed during a May 2023 appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. “He bit me before. Just putting it out there. He’s not a well-trained dog [and] he’s kind of a little jerk.” Graham’s behavior led Leviss to enroll him in behavioral classes to no avail. Leviss’ mom, Laura Leviss, alleged in July 2023 that working with trainers did not stop his habits and that Graham bit her “to the bone,” as well as injured the trainers and his new owner. Davidson, for his part, purchased a cavapoo puppy from a New York City pet store in June 2023, which nonprofit PETA condemned and claimed he should have adopted a rescue pet instead. The Saturday Night Live alum subsequently left PETA a scathing voicemail about his intentions. “I haven’t seen my mom and sister cry like that in over 20 years,” Davidson told TMZ at the time, in reference to watching his family mourn their late dog. “I was trying to cheer up my family. I was already upset that the store had filmed me without my permission or acknowledgement. Then this organization made a public example of us, making our grieving situation worse. I am upset. It was a poor choice of words. I shouldn’t have said what I said, but I am not sorry for standing up for myself and my family. Lisa Vanderpump and Dorit Kemsley Puppygate rocked The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 9 when Kemsley was accused of dumping pup Lucy — whom she adopted from former costar Vanderpump’s rescue organization — at a kill shelter. Kemsley, however, has denied dumping the dog, noting that she gave Lucy to a friend after the canine bit her and PK Kemsley’s children: Jagger and Phoenix.
